Rustic Apple Pie with Balsamumm-Maple Caramel

This Rustic Apple Pie with Balsamumm-Maple Caramel recipe is easy to make and bursting with cozy, comforting flavors. You can shape it however you like and even substitute the apples with pears or other seasonal fruits. But the real star of this recipe is the Balsamumm-Maple Caramel — irresistibly rich, sweet, and versatile.

One of the best things about this recipe? Both the dough and the filling can be prepared in advance and refrigerated for up to 3 days. The dough also freezes beautifully for up to 3 months.

FOR SERVING (OPTIONAL)

Vanilla ice cream

1/3 cup (40 g) chopped pecans

Extra Balsamumm-Maple Caramel

 A drizzle of Balsamumm Original

MAKE THE DOUGH

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.

  2. Using a fork or pastry cutter, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Gradually stir in the ice water until the dough just comes together. Add a little more water if it feels too dry.

  4. Transfer to a floured surface, knead briefly, then shape into a ball. Flatten into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or up to 3 days). Dough can also be frozen for up to 3 months.

PREPARE FILLING

  1. In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples with brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  2. Cover and refrigerate while the dough chills.

ASSEMBLE & BAKE

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle (or any shape you like). Trim the edges if desired.

  3. Place the dough on the baking sheet.

  4. Arrange the apple slices (avoid the juices) in the center, leaving a 2–3 inch border.

  5. Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, overlapping as needed.

  6. Drizzle 3 tbsp of Balsamumm-Maple Caramel over the filling.

  7. Brush the crust with egg wash and sprinkle with chopped pecans (if using).

  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.

  9. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
